College Scholarships

Members of Chesterfield Federal Credit Union are eligible to apply for a scholarship for continuing education through the Credit Union.

High school students who are members or whose parents are members of Chesterfield Federal Credit Union are eligible to apply for two scholarships through the Credit Union.

Continuing Education Scholarships

Charles R. Quaiff Sr. Memorial Continuing Education Scholarship

Qualifications
Two (2) $500.00 scholarships are available for adults pursuing a post-secondary degree, including an Associates Degree, Bachelors Degree, Masters Degree or Doctorate. The student must have been enrolled in an accredited college, university, or other recognized institution of higher learning during the previous semester.

The applicant must be a member of Chesterfield Federal Credit Union.

Method of Selection
The scholarship applicant MUST submit the following items to be considered for a scholarship:

  • A completed application form.
  • A completed transcript of previous college courses.
  • A professional resume
  • A letter of recommendation from an academic or professional reference.
  • An essay explaining why you want to pursue a degree in the field you have chosen. The essay must be at least 250 words, but not more than 500 words, and typewritten on plain paper.

Applicants will not be notified if documentation is missing or incomplete. Any applications received by the deadline without all of the above required information will not be accepted.

Each applicant will be judged in the following categories:

  • Essay
  • Academics
  • Financial need
  • Commitment to Community Service

Additional Information
The applicant is welcome to submit any other information that he or she feels would assist the committee in making a decision in his or her favor. This scholarship is a direct grant with no repayment requirements. Students who have applied for or received other scholarships are eligible. Scholarship funds will be paid directly to the college of the winner's choice upon registration. In the event the student chooses not to continue their education, the scholarship will be awarded to an alternate student.

Deadline
The deadline for the 2008/09 school year is August 15th, 2008. Applications and all supporting documentation must be received by this date.

High School Scholarships

Charles R. Quaiff Sr. Memorial Youth Scholarships

Qualifications
Three (3) $1,000.00 scholarships are available for high school students graduating in 2008. The student must be entering an accredited college, university, or other recognized institution of higher learning full-time in the 2008-2009 school year.

The applicant must be a member, or a parent must be a member, of Chesterfield Federal Credit Union.

  • A copy of SAT scores
  • An essay explaining what the credit union philosophy means to them, and how it will affect their future. The essay must be at least 250 words, but not more than 500 words, and typewritten on plain paper.

Applicants will not be notified if documentation is missing or incomplete. Any applications received by the deadline without all of the above required information will not be accepted.

Each applicant will be judged in the following categories:

  • Extra-curricular activities

The Richmond Chapter of Credit Unions Scholarships

Qualifications

Two (2) $1500.00 scholarships are available for college, technical, or trade school enrollment after June 30, 2008 and before December 31, 2008.

The scholarship is available to a high school student who will graduate in 2008 and will begin college by 12/31/2008.

The applicant must be a member or their parent(s) must be a member of a credit union belonging to the Richmond Chapter Credit Union. Chesterfield Federal Credit Union is a member of the Richmond Chapter of Credit Unions.

The scholarship will be awarded primarily on the basis of merit; not financial need.

The applicant must have a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.8 (grades 9-11).  An official transcript must accompany each application.

The applicant must have demonstrated leadership skills and a strong involvement in extracurricular activities and community service organizations.

The applicant shall have demonstrated outstanding citizenship qualities that show loyalty, trustworthiness, integrity, and a genuine concern for the well being of others.

The applicant MUST complete the four page application, including a written essay of 300 to 500 words explaining what the "Credit Union Difference" means to them and how it will effect their future.

Deadline
The deadline for scholarship year 2008 has passed. Please check back in November 2008 for information of the 2009 scholarships.
